This year marks the 25th anniversary of our trading life serving the needs of anglers from near and far who have come to fish on Lough Derg. Over those years, with the help of my wife Noda and in later years our daughter Vanessa and son Gary, we have grown the business to include a guided fishing service which we offer to anglers who may find it a bit daunting to tackle this great lake and it's fish. Both native to the twin towns of Ballina-Killaloe we have tried to pass our love of the area and of Lough Derg on to all we meet and have gathered around us a group of like minded native anglers to help us promote this.
Over the years we have seen angling methods and equipment change but the aim is still the same, the pursuit of the often elusive fish of Lough Derg. Boats also have changed a lot from my first timber boat powered by a 1.5hp two stroke seagull engine to the 40hp 4 stroke Yamaha we use today. One thing I have learned though is that faster engines don't mean more fish and the use of sonars doesn't guarantee you will catch fish. The secret in my opinion is being able to read and understand the art of watercraft.
Over the next few months we will add to this blog with some musings and tales from anglers who have fished on Derg for many years and hopefully some of the stories they have had handed down to them.
Till then tight lines,
T.J. and Noda.
