  • Due to the large amount of rainfall over recent weeks a lot of the lakes a proving hard to get to due to flooding. Some stands are under water and others are just too hard to get to.
Catches on some of our swims on Lough Derg have improved with anglers Steve Eke from Norfolk and John Borne from Saintfield filling their nets. Steve recorded 24 Bream to 6Lb and along a nice bag of large Roach for a catch of 130LB+. John fished Red maggot over caster for 15 lovely Bream he also had some good quality roach to one and a half pounds.
Other swims have also produced with regular visitor Martin Oades from Liverpool fishing from a swim on the western shore of the lake taking 44 bream for a weight of 198lb.Martin was delighted with a personal best Lough Derg bream of 7lb.2ozs.(Some pictures of Martin and his best fish can be seen on our fishing gallery page).
  • Weather again is the main factor in the fly anglers search for trout on Lough Derg.Trolling is now the main method used and fish are been take on trolled minnows and small rapala plugs.Scariff Bay is one of the best places at the moment with some good quality fish been taken from this area.
Hi TJ

Report as promised, thanks again for the loan of your wet gear and the great days fishing. Best wishes for your continued success.

Regards

Steve

Steve Eke from Norfolk and John Borne from Saintfield returned to the East Clare Lakes after a three year break to find the fishing as great as ever.

Day One Two Mile Gate on Loch Derg
Several Bream to 5LB, but the highlight was the superb roach in decent numbers the best just under 2LB.

Day 2 O,Briens Brigitt on the Shannon
A great days roach fishing on the pole at 11Metres, the fish came all day to an average to 6oz

Day 3 Loch Bridgitt
The water level was very high and covered the wooden platforms; however the fishing was just as we remembered it, Roach, Hybrids and the occasional Bream. Unfortunately we did not get one of this lakes renowned Tench.

Day 4 Loch Derg
TJ Obrien again provided the highlight of the week on the renowned “Island swims”. Bream showed from the off. All fish coming on four red maggots fished over large amounts of chopped worm and caster. The conditions were perfect with light winds and cloud. Steve recorded 24 Bream to 6Lb and along a nice bag of large Roach for a catch easily exceeding 130LB. John fished Red maggot over caster for 15 lovely Bream.
As ever TJ prebaiting was superb in attracting the fish as the swims we fished had not previously been used this year.

Steve Eke, John Borne
